What is Occupational Health?
Occupational health is an independent confidential health service provided by LMR Health and First Aid Limited. Your employer has a duty of care for your wellbeing, general Health and Safety whilst at work and they are committed to developing a healthy workforce.
The Occupational Health service is provided by a qualified adult nurse who has specialist occupational health experience. The service is committed to treating you with respect and ensuring your dignity and privacy by providing high professional standards. Occupational health works in partnership with you and your employer to resolve issues in the workplace that may be influencing your overall wellbeing.
The aims of the assessment are to:
- Prevent employees becoming ill by the work that they do
- Enable rehabilitation of employee returning to work following ill health, if appropriate
- Assist employees to achieve good health by providing health advice and support where appropriate
- An opportunity to discuss your general health and wellbeing and any workplace issues that you may be experiencing
Will this assessment replace the care that I may be receiving from my doctor/Specialist?
No, as occupational health is not responsible for your overall medical care, this is the responsibility of you and your doctor and/or specialist. However depending on your individual circumstances it may be advantageous to contact your doctor or specialist with your informed consent to gain further medical evidence. This will be discussed in more detail if appropriate during your consultation.
What information should you take to your appointment with occupational health for a face to face assessment?
Details of any current prescription medication that you are taking.
Copies of any relevant health information for example results of recent blood tests, x-rays or scans, and any previous medical reports.
If you wear glasses or hearing aids please bring them with you.
The Medical Assessment
The assessment will most likely last approximately 20 – 40 minutes; it will be conducted by telephone, video call or in a face-to-face capacity. If appropriate your physical capability levels, and reason for absence, if you are pending or previously undertaken medical treatment, your lifestyle and role will be discussed and assessed. Your consultation notes from the medical assessment will be heldconfidentially in your file with occupational health. You will be required to provide your consent for a report to be completed and sent to Human Resources/people services/designated other and management based on your consultation outcomes. The outcomes will be discussed with you following the consultation and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions in relation to the outcomes of the assessment. Your consent is required otherwise, the report cannot be sent to management, people services/human resources, designated other. The report will usually include a brief description of your issue, fitness for work and any workplace adjustments that may be required on medical grounds if appropriate.
